The UK government has confirmed funding for two significant transportation projects aimed at improving accessibility and preserving infrastructure. Work has commenced on a multi-million pound project to enhance accessibility at Alfreton station, part of the Access For All scheme by the Department for Transport (DfT), with expectations to complete by early 2025. Additionally, £35 million has been allocated for the restoration of the iconic Tyne Bridge, which has faced delays and public disputes over funding responsibilities. The bridge's restoration is timely, as it approaches its centenary in 2028. Concurrently, Transport for London (TfL) has announced over 80 upgrades to make London’s Tube and bus network more accessible, including the installation of mini ramps at some Underground stations.
I’m committed to making our transport network as fair and accessible as possible. Today @TfL is launching a new ambitious customer plan that aims to remove the barriers people face when using the transport network & enable more people to travel spontaneously, seamlessly & easily.

The news that we’ve been waiting for… £35m finally being handed over by the Government for Tyne Bridge restoration. After an increasingly bitter public feud between local councils and DfT over who’s to blame for the delay, this really is a relief. https://t.co/7r3qJibDdv

It is only right that disabled passengers should be empowered to use all forms of transport. That's why I met with @networkrail in Jan to discuss the multi-million pound project to improve accessibility at Alfreton station, as part of @transportgovuk's Access for All scheme.
Glad to see that work has started on a multi-million pound project to improve accessibility at Alfreton station, as part of @transportgovuk's Access For All scheme. The upgrades are expected to be completed in early 2025. See more here @networkrail: https://t.co/bqfRJl9rpV
