Months after the P&O Ferries scandal, where 800 workers were illegally fired, the UK government has resumed its relationship with the ferry operator's owner, DP World, despite earlier promises of accountability by @LouHaigh. This development follows revelations by ITV News and The Guardian about P&O Ferries seafarers working 12-hour days, 7 days a week for up to 17 weeks at a rate of £4.87 an hour without any response from the Conservative maritime minister @Byron_Davies. In response to these ongoing issues, unions and activists, including RMTunion, Nautilus International, and ITFglobalunion, rallied outside the UK parliament demanding a mandatory seafarers charter to prevent such exploitation.
Whilst most are enjoying their #weekends lets remember that the UK Is still allowing #seafarers to be paid less than £5 p/h around our coast. @POferries are still getting away with this, although @grantshapps and @BorisJohnson said theyll deal with it! #Exploitation @RMTunion https://t.co/YHilNEngxq
P&O Ferries Rally - more highlights from earlier this week when we joined @nautilusint, @RMTunion and @The_TUC outside the UK parliament to demand that action is taken to stop this from ever happening again. We need a mandatory seafarers charter. https://t.co/2gSxofYl93
Four days on from @itvnews and @guardian revelations that @POferries #seafarers are working 12 hour days, 7 days a week for up to 17 weeks at £4.87 an hour and there's been no response at all from @Conservatives #maritime minister @Byron_Davies The Tories are the P&O party! https://t.co/t6yeLCxR9x
Powerful video from the great activists at DPAC🔥 It was an honour to be in this delegation alongside so many people committed to fighting against the Government's unjust social security cuts, and building a world where we are all equal! #CRDP24 #DefendOurRights https://t.co/cJIVHTdaWY
Ministers let P&O Ferries owner back into bed months after sacking scandal. UK promised DP World ‘wouldn’t get away with’ firing 800 workers illegally. But months later, the love affair resumed. @RMTunion @nautilusint Via @openDemocracy @LouHaigh https://t.co/mU7wPfk68j
