UK aid cuts are having a 'devastating' impact on women's health, with Members of Parliament warning that the rights of women, girls, and marginalized groups need to be prioritized and funded. The International Development Committee (IDC) has highlighted 'horrifying numbers' of women and girls who could die as a result of these cuts. Almost 300,000 women died due to pregnancy and childbirth globally in 2020. UK aid spending on family planning has halved and is down 37% on reproductive, maternal, and child health from 2019. MPs, including Sarah Champion, chair of the Commons IDC, have voiced concerns over the UK Government's waning commitment to these issues, which jeopardizes the health of millions in deprived countries.
“The UK Government’s strong legacy and rhetoric on this issue has waned of late, jeopardising the health of millions of women and children in some of the most materially deprived countries on earth”, writes @SarahChampionMP for @Politics_co_uk today 👇 https://t.co/b5pYmKuIp3
