A report on Teesworks has raised concerns about mismanagement, shady practices, and a lack of value from taxpayer money. The TV Mayor's PR campaign has been criticized for ignoring the report's findings. Ben Houchen, involved in the scandal, has faced criticism for his response to the report. There are calls for the NAO to investigate the matter to ensure accountability and proper use of funds in the North East.
This is extraordinary. Not only did Sadiq Khan refuse to tell the London Assembly he was planning this he also neglected to tell the train operators, or even agree a deal with them! It’s nothing more than an ill-thought-through PR gimmick using funds which are needed elsewhere. https://t.co/NxNiPdBQ15
On Politics North @BBCNEandCumbria, it was clear Tories knew what was in the #Teesworks report so no surprise they’re trying to spin it, but we must ensure every pound counts in the #NorthEast. I asked the Minister why he will not allow @NAOorguk to conduct a proper inquiry. https://t.co/04KHNux5KC
Ben Houchen’s flip-flopping on the Teesworks report. Yesterday: “I’m pleased that people can see in black and white for themselves this is a fantastic project and one that we’ve done all of the right things on.” Today: “Have we been perfect as an organisation? Absolutely not.” https://t.co/20LHA91c8u
Don't believe the Tory spin. Ben Houchen has effectively been put into special measures over the Teesworks scandal. In 45 years of politics & public service, I've never read a more damning report about a public body and how it conducts its affairs. The NAO must now investigate. https://t.co/J9q7Of1sB5
Having read the report into Teesworks it’s hugely concerning to see such mismanagement, shady practices and a complete lack of value from taxpayer money. Worse still, the PR campaign from the TV Mayor completely ignoring this disgraceful reflection of his performance and conduct.
