On February 7, 2024, train drivers at Marylebone and King’s Cross stations in London voted to stop work in a day of action on February 8, 2024, in support of the miners' strike. The RMT union organized a day of action to protest against the proposed £1.2 billion cuts to Network Rail's maintenance and infrastructure budget over the next five years, which represent a 13% reduction from the previous period and pose serious safety risks. Public awareness campaigns were held at various UK stations, and bus route cuts in Somerset and Bedfordshire were also highlighted as concerns.
#RailCutsCostLives @RMTPad1 @RMTLTRPresident @PiccadillyRmt this morning at Paddington Station in rainy London town. £1.2bn @networkrail cuts to maintenance investment has already led to a worrying rise in rail infrastructure faults https://t.co/s8uZZwubxZ https://t.co/VpWhZKR2rg
Overcrowding on British trains has reached unacceptable levels, undermining safety, accessibility and value for money for passengers. I raised overcrowding on @CrossCountryUK services in Stockport with the Government - which is not doing enough to hold rail companies to account. https://t.co/ZXykzGehdp
The Tories' deregulation of taxi licensing standards has threatened the safety of passengers. The govt must legislate to prevent standards being undermined and stop the abuse of cross-border hiring. https://t.co/UBYoBuqykX
Last month we found out Avanti executives boasted about free money that was 'too good to be true' from the contracts that the Tories have handed them. Cancellations are soaring and passengers deserve to know why they continue to reward failure. https://t.co/468nMLgJv5

The proposed cuts to the 78, 79, and 200 bus routes in Bedfordshire are deeply concerning. To give communities back the power to run bus services that serve them properly, Labour would overturn the ideological ban on municipal bus companies. https://t.co/JARcyGdMkQ
