In a significant development for the North East of England, the Chancellor has announced a comprehensive devolution package that includes funding for a major TV and film studio complex in Sunderland. This project, part of the North East's 'trailblazer' devolution deal, is expected to create over 8,450 jobs and includes a £25 million investment specifically earmarked for the building of the Crown Works film studio. The deal also encompasses a £58 million allocation for Tyne and Wear Metro maintenance over the next two years, among other investments aimed at boosting the region's infrastructure and economic prospects. Local MPs, including Sunderland MP, and entities such as Fulwell 73, have been vocal in their support for the investment, highlighting the transformative potential of the studio for Sunderland and the broader North East region. The total investment over the next 10 years is projected at £200 million, with additional funding including £72 million for transport, over £500 million unlocked through a historic devolution deal, a £685 million uplift for City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements, and a £100 million commitment for the trailblazer devolution deal.
