An independent public inquiry into the historic grooming gang scandal in Oldham has been approved, following Labour's loss of overall control of the council in last month's local elections. The number of reports for child sexual exploitation in the area has surged by 580% over the past eight years. The inquiry, which will be as comprehensive as possible, aims to uncover any cover-ups or obstructions to justice. Brian Hobin, an independent Councillor, has been a key figure in advocating for the inquiry despite years of resistance from the Labour-run council. He emphasized the importance of addressing the issue for the survivors, whose stories are described as heartbreaking and disgusting. Hobin stated, 'This inquiry will go as wide, as deep, and as far back as possible.' The process of sorting an inquiry has been decades long.
