The fire started on June 30, 2024, and multiple fire crews have been battling the blaze overnight. Police have urged people to stay away from the area. By July 1, 2024, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service had scaled back the blaze but remained on the scene to monitor hotspots and investigate the cause. Three people were treated for injuries related to the fire.
