During a Sky News interview with Beth Rigby, Sir Keir Starmer admitted that he was certain Labour would lose the 2019 election under Jeremy Corbyn. Despite his belief, Starmer campaigned for Labour and supported Corbyn, although he repeatedly refused to say he wanted Corbyn to become Prime Minister. Starmer acknowledged that he has since changed his position on several pledges, citing the high cost as a reason for his shift. The discussion was part of the #BattleForNo10 series aired on Sky 501.

Tonight @Keir_Starmer showed his deep commitment to public service, his empathy and his seriousness about the change @UKLabour can deliver. The contrast with @RishiSunak could not be more stark. It’s time for a Prime Minister who will put the country first and the party second.
Cutting taxes. Bringing down migration. Supporting our pensioners. @RishiSunak couldn’t be clearer on what the @Conservatives stand for. #BattleForNo10

This is a much more difficult Q for Keir Starmer - he can say he didn't believe Corbyn would win the election and people may accept that - but Starmer then went on to pitch for Labour leadership with v similar promises to the manifesto he said had no chance of winning...
Keir Starmer can't say if he meant it when he said Corbyn would be a brilliant PM. Insists repeatedly he didn't think Labour would win the last election. "Have I changed my position on those pledges? Yes I have. I changed my mind, it was too expensive."
