Valdo Calocane, who fatally stabbed three people, has been sentenced to detention in a high-security psychiatric hospital, Ashworth Hospital, due to his mental illness, as agreed upon by five psychiatrists, according to Dr. Hannah Quirk. The decision not to charge him with murder has sparked outrage and calls for a public inquiry into the Nottingham stabbings, particularly whether the tragedy could have been prevented. The family of victim Barnaby Webber, as well as the families of Grace O'Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates, fully support the inquiry and have condemned the government's refusal to hold one. Reports have surfaced of Calocane living a 'cushy life' in the hospital, funded by the taxpayer, engaging in leisure activities. A special review into the NHS trust that treated Calocane, who was sectioned four times prior to the attacks, has been ordered by a Minister. Additionally, Leicestershire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct regarding its investigation into assaults committed by Calocane weeks before the killings.
