A food bank in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, was astonished to receive a donation of a jar of Uncle Ben's cooking sauce that was nearly 26 years out of date, alongside a 25-year-old can of cheese sauce. The food bank has called for donors to exercise greater vigilance after discovering the expired items dating back to 1998. Some volunteers at the food bank, who are younger than the donated sauce, were taken aback by the unusual contributions. The food bank also received partially consumed food items, such as half a block of cheese and a packet of biscuits with a peg on top.
