The National Gallery is celebrating its 200th anniversary by loaning famous artworks, including 'The Stonemason's Yard' by Canaletto, to various locations across the UK. This masterpiece, painted around 1725 and hidden in a mine during World War II, returns to Wales for display. Twelve other paintings from the gallery's collection are also being loaned out to mark the occasion. Additionally, the gallery is launching several initiatives, including collaborations with 200 social media creators to promote these events.

Britain’s National Gallery opened its doors to the public 200 years ago. Before the pandemic it was the seventh-most-visited museum in the world. Though it has struggled in the years since covid, its birthday celebrations are a chance to show off https://t.co/l7hl4hlxnS 👇
This one’s too good to be missed. An Impressionist masterpiece on display at #LeicesterMuseum – it looks stunning, and with an excellent exhibition built around it. Big thanks to @NationalGallery for lending it to us #NG200 https://t.co/6PjxKe5LKY
Today is the 200th b’day of the @NationalGallery. My favourite piece in the gallery is The Ambassadors by Hans Holbein the Younger. As official painter to Henry VIII, he captured the mood of the age & Britain’s emergence as a major player during the Renaissance. What's yours? https://t.co/oYX3Lv6I7F
