INSS Starts May 14 Reimbursements, Uses Correios and Caixa for Service, Febraban Joins Fraud Investigation Task Force

The Brazilian National Institute of Social Security (INSS) is implementing measures to assist retirees and pensioners affected by fraudulent deductions from their benefits. Starting May 14, the INSS will begin reimbursing those who were wrongfully charged. To facilitate in-person service for beneficiaries without internet access, the Caixa Econômica Federal is considering using its branches, while the INSS plans to utilize the infrastructure of the national postal service, Correios, for outreach and assistance. Additionally, the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), in collaboration with the government and other agencies, is set to launch a task force to investigate irregularities in the granting of payroll-deductible loans to retirees and pensioners. The presidents of Febraban and INSS are scheduled to meet next week to discuss further actions to address these fraud cases.
