Polygon Co-Founder Sandeep Nailwal Named CEO, Unveils 100,000 TPS Roadmap and zkEVM Phase-Out

Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon, has been appointed CEO of the Polygon Foundation to lead a strategic shift in the blockchain project’s priorities. Nailwal, the largest holder of the POL token, announced his decision to take full control of the foundation, which oversees the Polygon ecosystem. Under his leadership, Polygon will focus on scaling solutions such as Polygon PoS and AggLayer, while planning to phase out zkEVM in 2025. The Polygon PoS testnet is set to upgrade its capacity to 1,000 transactions per second (TPS) in early July, with a target of 5,000 TPS shortly thereafter.

Nailwal also unveiled an ambitious roadmap aiming to reach 100,000 TPS, with the first release already live on the Amoy testnet and expected to launch on mainnet by the first week of July. This move comes amid restructuring following the departure of former CEO Mihailo Bjelic and aims to streamline the nonprofit foundation’s governance and operational focus. The updated governance will also emphasize stablecoin payments and the AggLayer technology.
