Dormant 2011 Bitcoin Whale Shifts $4.3 Billion Worth of Tokens

A long-inactive Bitcoin holder that accumulated coins in 2011 moved at least 40,000 BTC on 4 July, according to on-chain data compiled by analytics firm EmberCN and reported by crypto news outlet WuBlockchain. The transfers were executed in four tranches of 10,000 BTC each and routed to newly created addresses, suggesting the owner remains in control of the funds. At current prices, the tokens are worth roughly $4.3 billion.

The wallet involved is believed to belong to an early miner whose holdings once reached about 200,000 BTC—now valued at around $22 billion—placing the entity among the five largest known Bitcoin addresses, a Coinbase director said in a separate note. The latest movements elevate the still-active balance to the equivalent of the world’s 14th-largest Bitcoin stash, underscoring the concentration of the cryptocurrency’s supply among a small number of early adopters.

The identity of the holder has not been confirmed, though market participants have speculated that it could be a prominent early investor. No coins have been sent to exchanges so far, limiting immediate pressure on market liquidity, but traders are monitoring the addresses for signs of a potential sale.

Hmm... According to the ranking of BTC holding addresses on there are a total of 8 addresses that haven't moved since they hoarded 10,000 BTC in 2011. As of today, 6 of these addresses have been revived and 2 haven't moved. In other words, this giant whale should have held at least 80,000 BTC, which is now worth $8.6 billion. You should never transfer BTC to an exchange
