BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust has amassed more than $70 billion in assets in just 341 trading days, the fastest ascent on record for an exchange-traded fund and five times quicker than the previous benchmark set by SPDR Gold Shares. The milestone comes as US spot Bitcoin ETFs logged almost $6 billion of net subscriptions in May, a 121% jump from April, and pushed their aggregate trading volume past the $1 trillion mark on 12 June. On 11 June, the funds purchased about 3,940 Bitcoin—nearly nine times the day’s mined supply—helping lift daily net inflows to $431 million, with IBIT accounting for $337 million.
Investor appetite is also accelerating for Ethereum products. The amount of Ether locked in staking contracts has climbed to an all-time high of roughly 34.8 million tokens, or nearly 30% of the circulating supply. Spot Ethereum ETFs attracted $125 million of net inflows on 11 June, their best day in four months, and an additional $240 million on 12 June, outpacing Bitcoin ETFs for the session and extending an 18-day streak that has carried cumulative inflows above $1 billion.
The renewed demand coincides with a rebound in Ether’s market price, which reclaimed $2,800 on 11 June for the first time since February. Trading activity has mirrored the surge: daily derivatives turnover in Ethereum has reached $110 billion, while futures volume over the past 24 hours exceeded Bitcoin’s by $56.3 billion to $36.8 billion. Market participants attribute the rotation toward Ether to improving regulatory clarity around decentralized finance and expectations of further protocol upgrades.
