A new COVID-19 variant, KP.3, has emerged as the dominant strain in the United States, now accounting for 25% of cases. Updated data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that this variant is responsible for a plurality of cases across the country, making up 1 of 3 COVID cases. The rise of KP.3 coincides with an increase in emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and deaths, although these remain at low levels. Other variants, such as LB.1, are also gaining traction, while JN.1 is declining. Additionally, CDC data shows low flu activity.
