Ford Motor Co. is recalling roughly 200,000 vehicles in the United States after a software defect was found to disable or freeze rear-view camera images, a problem that can raise the risk of a crash. The automaker disclosed the issue in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which said the glitch may leave drivers without a view behind the vehicle or distract them by keeping the image on-screen after reversing.

Dealers will install updated software at no cost to owners, and notification letters are scheduled to be mailed by July 28. The campaign carries Ford recall number 25S72. Drivers can contact Ford customer service or the NHTSA’s vehicle-safety hotline for further instructions.

The action covers 200,061 Ford and Lincoln models from the 2018 to 2024 model years, including the Bronco Sport, Explorer, F-150, Maverick, Mustang, Ranger, Transit, Lincoln Navigator and Lincoln Nautilus. The company did not report any crashes or injuries linked to the defect in its filing.
