Melbourne Demons player Joel Smith has been accused by Sport Integrity Australia of trafficking or attempted trafficking of cocaine, as well as possession on September 9th, 2022, according to the AFL. The AFL has confirmed that Smith is facing three doping violation allegations for the alleged trafficking, or attempted trafficking, of cocaine. Additionally, four further anti-doping violations have been asserted against Smith. Melbourne captain Max Gawn stated he had no indication that Smith had allegedly been texting teammates offering cocaine and insisted that the Demons do not have a “drug culture”.
