Germany's Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the country's largest oppositional and center-right party, has been hit by a 'serious' cyberattack. The attack comes just a week before the European Parliament elections, scheduled for June 9th. The CDU, which has over 35% support, has been critical of Chancellor Olaf Scholz's handling of support for Ukraine. As a precaution, the party has taken parts of its IT infrastructure offline. The German Interior Ministry reported the attack, describing it as potentially extensive and sophisticated, possibly linked to Russian military intelligence. This follows a previous cyberattack on the Social Democratic Party (SPD). Additionally, CDU Bundestag member Roderich Kiesewetter was physically assaulted in the run-up to the elections. Authorities announced the attack on Saturday.
