Google is preparing to launch an anti-misinformation campaign across five European Union countries, ahead of the bloc's parliamentary elections and the implementation of tougher new rules tackling online content. This initiative aligns with the enforcement of Europe's landmark Digital Services Act (DSA), which applies in full from tomorrow. The DSA expands its reach to cover huge swathes of the internet, including all online platforms, marketplaces, and intermediaries, exempting only businesses with fewer than 50 staff and annual revenues below €10M. It sets new legal obligations for platforms and digital businesses to enhance content moderation and online advertising regulations. In response, Roblox has announced significant changes to comply with the DSA, aiming to combat harmful content and grant EU users new rights. European Commissioner Thierry Breton emphasized the importance of effective enforcement of the DSA under the motto '#DSA O'clock', to protect citizens from illegal content and uphold their rights across all online platforms in the EU.
