A series of legislative efforts aimed at combating various forms of digital harassment and misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) across the United States have been introduced by lawmakers. These include state bans covering half of the US population against nonconsensual explicit images made with AI, the introduction of the bipartisan CONSENT Act by RepMcClellan, RepNateMoran, SenBrianSchatz, and SteveDaines to ban cyberflashing and unsolicited AI-generated explicit photos, and the STOP VOYEURS Act of 2024 by RepNancyMace, which proposes up to five years imprisonment for nonconsensual filming of private moments. Additionally, Georgia has taken steps to outlaw AI impersonations in political campaigns, and there is a push for laws requiring the identification and labeling of AI-generated online content. The California State Senate is also attempting to pass a bill requiring identity verification for users with large audiences or accounts spreading large amounts of AI-generated content.

Too many Americans have experienced cyberflashing & other forms of online sexual harassment. My bipartisan, bicameral CONSENT Act will ban cyberflashing & the transfer of unsolicited AI-generated explicit photos. I’m grateful to @Bumble for their support. https://t.co/Azf4ZDUylV
It’s my mission to protect every woman and girl from this traumatizing invasion of privacy… Today we filed the STOP VOYEURS ACT OF 2024… We want to protect all those who’ve been recorded or photographed during intimate moments without their knowledge or consent. https://t.co/5c8JEkUVF4
The Stop VOYEURS Act of 2024 is a common sense bill to stop creepy, non-consensual filming of the most intimate parts of our day-to-day lives. Our bill stands up for privacy as a basic human right, protecting women, girls, & all affected by voyeurism. https://t.co/Bwgf1v5tKn
Our "STOP VOYEURS Act of 2024," aims to penalize nonconsensual filming (video or photo) of private moments w/ up to 5 years imprisonment. Let's make this illegal everywhere, not just certain maritime jurisdictions & territories. Next, we'll tackle civil right of action. https://t.co/PxzIkpQP3E
