OpenAI has appointed Fidji Simo, the current CEO of Instacart, as the new CEO of Applications, reporting directly to Sam Altman, who will continue as the overall CEO of OpenAI. Simo, a French-American businesswoman who has been a member of OpenAI's board since March 2024, will oversee the company's product offerings and business operations, including sales, marketing, and finance. Prior to joining OpenAI, Simo served as the CEO of Instacart and spent over a decade at Meta, where she was the Head of the Facebook App. She is an alumnus of UCLA Anderson School of Management and HEC Paris Business School. Simo will remain CEO of Instacart for the next few months before transitioning to the role of Chair of the board at Instacart.
