Neuralink has initiated a compression challenge, tasking participants to develop methods for losslessly compressing files to 1/200th of their original size. Some individuals have reported progress, with one achieving an 80% reduction in file size. The challenge has sparked interest and innovation in the field of compression algorithms.
introducing the n1-codec! spent friday implementing 24+ lossless compression algorithms for the @neuralink compression challenge! the goal: to determine how well-established lossless techniques can effectively compress neural data. check out below for the details 👇 https://t.co/rPWzgyXnVM
Why is everyone dunking on the neuralink compression challenge? I haven't seen any coherent evidence that the data is actually full of noise, other than a picture which doesn't really _prove_ anything.

If you invent a 200-fold compression algorithm, DM me, and I’ll take a 3% finders fee on selling this to AWS for ten figures instead of getting $50k and a Cybertruck or whatever Elon’s offering https://t.co/ddSglNtsf4
who has had luck with the neuralink challenge? i spent about 90 mins on it and get 80% deflation eg 197kb wav --> 40kb
Neuralink started a compression challenge. They're asking for people to find methods to losslessly (!!) compress files to 1/200th (!) the size but the files are extremely noisy so thats certainly not possible 🙁 (spectrogram of one randomly chosen file for illustration) https://t.co/D9297FbqOo
