Microsoft has recently launched Phi-2, a new small language model with 2.7 billion parameters, which has demonstrated state-of-the-art performance and is available on Argilla's GitHub: distilabel. Following its launch, the company has updated the licensing for Phi-2, shifting from a non-commercial license to the more permissive MIT license. This change allows for broader usage, including commercial applications, and is expected to significantly increase innovation utilizing this model. Phi-2, the top ranked model among those with fewer than 3 billion parameters, has been trained on 1.4 trillion tokens, including synthetic data, and has achieved a score of 56.7 on the MMLU, surpassing Google's Gemini Nano.
