Microsoft has partnered with Chennai-based startup Sarvam AI to develop voice-based generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The startup's founders previously worked on AI models at IIT Madras-based research group AI4Bharat. Sarvam AI has received funding from Lightspeed India, Peak XV Partners, and Khosla Ventures. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced plans to train 2 million Indians in AI and expand the 'Code Without Barriers' program to train 75,000 women developers by 2024. Nadella emphasized the need for India to invest in AI to boost GDP and highlighted the country's potential to surpass the US in the total number of AI developers by 2027.
