Meta Seeks $29 B Financing as Zuckerberg Commits to Gigawatt AI Data Centres

Meta Platforms is negotiating with major private-credit lenders, including Apollo Global Management, KKR, Brookfield, Carlyle and Pimco, to raise about $29 billion for a nationwide build-out of artificial-intelligence data centres, according to the Financial Times. The financing under discussion would combine roughly $3 billion in equity with $26 billion of debt and is being arranged with the help of Morgan Stanley. If completed, the deal would rank among the largest private fund-raisings of its kind.
The external capital would complement an aggressive internal spending plan unveiled two weeks later by Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg. In a 14 July post, Zuckerberg said Meta will commit "hundreds of billions of dollars" over several years to construct multiple multi-gigawatt facilities under a new Superintelligence Labs division. The first super-cluster, dubbed Prometheus, is scheduled to go live in 2026, while a second site, Hyperion, is expected to scale to five gigawatts and cover a footprint comparable to part of Manhattan.
Meta has lifted its 2025 capital-expenditure forecast to $64 billion–$72 billion as it races against OpenAI and Google for advanced AI capability. The company has also agreed to spend $14.3 billion for a 49 percent stake in Scale AI and has been recruiting high-profile researchers. Zuckerberg said the strength of Meta’s core advertising business gives the company the balance-sheet capacity to pursue the outlays even as it explores off-balance-sheet funding for specific data-centre assets.
