Today marks the first ever World Day for Assistive Technology, highlighting the importance of access to assistive technology (AT) as a human right. Despite the critical role AT plays in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, only 10% of people in low-income countries have access to the necessary assistive products. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities supports this right, yet coverage remains inadequate. The Global Report of Assistive Technology, launched two years ago, has significantly boosted awareness and prioritization of AT. Organizations like the Assistive Tech Impact Fund are working to scale solutions and build ecosystems to drive change, particularly in Africa. The integration of robots into assistive care is also seen as a potential game-changer for people with limited mobility. A notable example is 14-year-old Abdujabbor from Tajikistan, whose hearing aid has enabled him to communicate with peers and family.
