At the ASCO 2024 conference, several studies highlighted the effectiveness of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in oncology. AI virtual navigation tools were shown to be highly effective in re-engaging patients who missed their colonoscopy appointments. At Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, the AI tool MyEleanor was used to contact patients who had canceled or missed their appointments. The tool successfully re-engaged 57% of the 2400 patients contacted, with over half of those agreeing to reschedule their appointments. This AI-driven approach aims to address the issue of nonadherence to cancer screening appointments, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
"The AI, dubbed MyEleanor, isn’t designed to replace human navigators, Moadel-Robblee explained. 'She' calls patients who didn’t show up or canceled their colonoscopy appointments. #ASCO24. If they pick up, she has 2 primary directives: transfer them over to a human… https://t.co/QDPX6VYaqT
