The High Court has advised the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to reduce murder charges against controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie and his co-accused in the Shakahola massacre case. The court reasoned that prosecuting Mackenzie with 191 counts of murder is not in the public interest or the interest of the administration of justice. Prosecutors clarified that this action does not mean the defendants did not commit the charged crimes, but due to withheld information from the defense and other mistakes, they wanted to ensure justice was served fairly. Additionally, 422 witnesses are set to testify against Mackenzie in the manslaughter case.
